Who We Are: Tiziana and Walter Fierli

Our father Furio fell in love with this property in Tuscany in the 90s. Refurbishing 2 buildings that had no running water, electricity nor heating has not been an easy task. Our family has been working for ages making fine Italian shoes and we would have never believed that having guests would become a so demanding (and equally beautiful!) activity.

We started slowly, trying to put ourselves in the shoes of our guests. “What are they looking for, what do they want, what do they need, how can we please our guests on holiday in Tuscany?” We started from the essential, with the first Dutch guests that, once arrived at La Scuola di Furio, were surprised that we provided toilet paper rolls (!); then we put a dishwasher in every unit; then having the wi-fi; then create a pitch where children can play football; the last one was fencing the pool for the safety of our younger guests.

One of our first, and very much appreciated idea, has been put together a useful guide in Fucecchio and its surrounding area rich of maps, advice and information. Our rule No. 1 has always been “listen to our guests”!

If good will is a good starting point but professionalism is built with courses of study, Tiziana in 2013 concluded a course to become a “Reception and Tourism Management Technician” and in 2014 attended a Tourism Management course at Pisa University. In 2018 Tiziana was one out of three European managers invited (all expenses paid!) to attend the first summit with one of the top OTAs in the world (yes, the one that lists more than 1,5 million properties and books 1, 2 million rooms per day) whose signature colours are blue and yellow. In 2019 Tiziana started attending a course to become a professional tour leader, so she is now a licensed professional tour leader and, since 2022, also a certified environmental guide.

Now we keep on trying to make our guests feel good. They come from all over the world (even from Brazil and French Polynesia - Tahiti!) and they make every day interesting.

No matter if the might stay only for a few nights or for a couple of weeks, all of our guests enrich us with their stories and their experiences and we are happy that they bring a piece of our beautiful Tuscany with them!

WHO WE ARE NOT

We are not an agency with other properties and we are not a “Book now!” button. La Scuola di Furio only has seven units (six apartments and a villa) in total and we want to maintain harmony. Sometimes we might have to say no to some requests. We do not accept more persons in our apartments if their number exceeds the capacity (no blow-up beds, nor sofa beds) and only registered guests (=staying with us) can use our pool.
We believe that the time spent on vacation is very precious, as it is the money spent on the holiday itself.

We spend a lot of time at the La Scuola di Furio, even though we do not live there, because it is a place that we like and that needs care; so that we can keep appreciating it and you continue to love it, too.

WHY IT PAYS TO GO DIRECT

If you would like to book any of our properties please contact us directly. Booking via a large listing site hikes the price you pay as they will charge you commission on top of our price! This applies to most bookings through Booking.com, VRBO, Trip Advisor, Airbnb and many other large sites. Let your friends know it pays to go direct, finding the owners via their own website! A little research and some lateral thinking using the name of the house and the area/town will usually get you there.
